A very interesting discussion was conducted at ICASEPS on 2 July 2014. The topic of discussion was “Price and Quality of Rice, and Rice Milling Industry Census of Central Bureau of Statistics (PIPA-BPS) 2012” presented by Prof. Dr. M. Husein Sawit (Daily Management Board of Research Professor Communication Forum/FKPR)”. The background of this discussion was basically anchored in two issues. First, why does the Indonesian rice price keep continuing increase and tend to be higher than those of exporter countries such as Viet Nam and Thailand? Second, why does Indonesia also vis-à-vis the widened gap between the prices of rice hull and rice kernel?
Introduction and Application of “General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS)” Software for Data Processing
Indonesia Center for Agriculture Socio Economic Policy Studies has conducted training on “Introduction and Application of General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) Software for Data Processing” for four days, 3-6 June 2014, at ICASEPS office, Jl. A. Yani 70, Bogor. The speakers were the researchers of ICASEPS itself, namely Prof. Dr. Budiman Hutabarat and Adi Setiyanto, SP, MSi, and attended by around fifteen ICASEPS’ researchers and data programmers.
Coffee Morning “The Concept of Food Sovereignty”
In the effort to comprehend and to invite the researchers of ICASEPS to explore more deeply the concept of “food sovereignty”, the ICASEPS’ Coffee Morning activity held on Friday morning, 30 May 2014, raised it as a topic of discussion. In this occasion Dr. Syahyuti presented his paper entitled “Comprehending and Measuring Indonesia’s Food Sovereignty after 2014”. The topic was motivated by his concern that the concept of “food sovereignty” is misinterpreted, co-opted and claimed mistakenly by dominant parties so that it is misdirected.
ICASEPS’ Coffee Morning "Achieving Food Sovereignty through Rabbit Meat"
As a routine event of ICASEPS, the coffee morning was conducted again on Friday (9 May 2014) discussing the topic of “Food Sovereignty for the Nation and State Survival: the Rabbit as an Alternative to Fulfill Meat Requirements”. The discussion was initiated by Dr. Tri Pranadji, a senior researcher of ICASEPS, and attended by internal researchers and external guests.
Regional Workshop Eco-health on Poultry Production Cluster
The ICASEPS organized a regional workshop with the theme of environmental health (eco-health) at the Ibis Styles Hotel Bandung on 5-9 May 2014. Completely, this workshop was labeled as “Eco-Health on Poultry Cluster” aimed at providing an opportunity to researchers and relevant stakeholders to share knowledge and experience among the participating countries in implementing the concept of eco-health in the field. The activities of this workshop included presentations and discussions attended by 25 participants consisting of senior researchers from various countries (China, Viet Nam, Thailand, and Indonesia), evaluator team of the International Development Research Center (IDRC), provincial livestock office of West Java, and resource persons of the Center for Health Policy and Social Changes (NGO based in Yogyakarta).
New Regulation on the Performance Allowance: Improving Performance and Discipline of MOA Employees
Based on Presidential Regulation No. 103/2012, the employees of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) were started to be given Performance Allowance. The Performance Allowance is basically a reward for the MOA that has implemented programs and activities of Bureaucratic Reform launched by the Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform starting in the period 2011.
